Road Weather and Traffic Control Systems
Coastal Environmental Systems manufactures a line of road weather detection instruments and integrated traffic control devices. Our small surface sensor reports on the surface conditions of the highway, detecting ice, snow, rain, etc. In addition to surface conditions, the integrated speed control system monitors other parameters, including the speed of the traffic. From this real-time data analysis, the system can determine and adjust the posted speed limit to suit the existing conditions.
The ZENO® 3200 datalogger can measure and process data from many sensors, then act on that data locally or relay the data to another location. A number of telemetry methods are available to forward the data from the highway to a different site. They include: dial-up telephone, leased line telephone, cellular telephone, radio (UHF), radio (VHF), radio 800 MHz trunk system, radio 900 MHz spread spectrum, short haul modem, long haul modem and satellite.
Roadmaster Weather Information Stations
These systems are typically composed of a network of multiple weather stations which measure a full suite of meteorological parameters in addition to the condition of the road surface. The two primary objectives of a RWIS weather station are real-time condition measurement and prediction 24 hours ahead of when ice will begin forming on the road. These weather stations utilize heat flux calculations based on road bed temperature profiles that take into account a freezing point lower than 32° if anti-icing chemicals have been applied to the road.
Roadmaster INTERCEPT® Display Software
Web-based, NTCIP-ESS Level 2 compliant software makes it simple and easy to find all the information you need and share it with others, via internet, intranet, laptops and pagers.
Roadway & Runway Surface Sensor
A critical sensor in the data collection suite for RWIS weather stations, it can also be used alone for single point readings without meteorological sensors. This application is well suited for bridge decks, etc. The sensor can also be connected to existing (or other manufacturers') data collection platforms.
Wireless Surface Sensor
How do you get road or runway surface information to your central RWIS weather station? By using the Coastal wireless sensor, you can actually connect up to 21 weather sensors to a single wireless sensor control box and transmit the data to a remote location up to 5 miles away.
Visibility Stations
Impaired visibility problems can create traffic headaches or even large pile-ups. The Coastal visibility station can measure true visibility regardless of the source of the problem smoke, precipitation, fog, dust, etc. then turn on flashing lights or notify the state DOT or the state patrol of the situation.
