Coastal's Fixed Base Systems (FBS) are the most advanced weather stations of their kind in the world.

Coastal’s Fixed Base Systems measure and report weather data for permanent airfields; allowing support to CAT I, CAT II or CAT III airfields. Our FBS can include the following meteorological sensors: Wind Sensor, Redundant Altimeter, Relative Humidity (Dew Point), Air Temperature, Visibility, Freezing Rain, Cloud Height and Cover, Precipitation Type, Precipitation Amount, Lightning and Runway Visual Range (RVR). Optionally the system can measure Soil Moisture and monitor the area with video.

Only Coastal Automated Weather Observing Stations, AWOS, have a Universal Serial Interface which allows the end user or third party to configure the system to accept and process data from new serial sensors. By simply using the menus built into ZENOSOFT® software you can configure the ZENO® to communicate with most off-the-shelf serial sensors.

The ZENO® aviation weather stations can send data several ways to the same or different locations. Because of the 7 serial ports available, it can, for example, send data by radio AND hardwire and have a maintenance port accessible by dial-up or cell phone—none interfering with the other. Radio can be two way (polled) or one way, and most frequencies are possible including UHF, VHF and 900 and 1.2GHZ spread spectrum ranges.

Coastal's Fixed Base Systems can have up to 5 remote weather stations (full or partial sets of all the above weather sensors) on one or several runways. The data is all collected and processed in the weather room at either a PC or a server (depending on the scale of data distribution). The data is then sent to one or several display devices, other PCs, a LAN/WAN, and a voice output for broadcast to pilots.
